OMAHA RIVER CITY RODEO OMAHA, NEB. Huber caps off season with win

After a long season on the road, Cody Huber was ready to get home to his expectant wife and 3-year-old son. But first, he had unfinished business in Omaha. With an 8.5-second run, the tie-down roper secured one last win at the Omaha (Neb.) River City Rodeo. “I had that calf at another rodeo, and I knew he was pretty good. I took a little more aggressive start than I anticipated, but it all worked out,” Huber said. In addition to Omaha, Huber won the Dayton (Iowa) Championship Rodeo and the Defeat of Jesse James Days Rodeo (Northfield, Minn.), both in September. But he was one horse short in August, making for a rocky month. Having a season of ups and downs made the Omaha win even sweeter. “I needed that,” Huber said. “My confidence had kind of gone down a bit, August was not good for me. “Ending a season on that note was good.” Though he’s excited to get back on the rodeo trail, the end of the season came at just the right time for Huber. His wife is due with their second son soon, and their son Leroy is learning to ride horses like his dad. “Since I’ve been gone most of the summer, (my son) just doesn’t want to leave my side. He’s been riding my old horse. He just started riding on his own a little bit,” Huber said. “It’s been fun being at home.” – Ally Gallagher

PASADENA RODEO PASEDENA, TEXAS

NFR race leads Zach Hibler to victory in Pasadena

Zach Hibler scooped up every dollar he could find when the PRCA regular season ended Sept. 30. That journey led the Wheeler, Texas, bareback rider, to a handful of rodeos in the waning days of the PRCA season. One of those rodeos was the Pasadena (Texas) Livestock Show & Rodeo and he made it count and then some. Hibler took home the title with an 85.5-point ride on Frontier Rodeo’s High Heels. He said it’s a rodeo he wasn’t even entered in until the night of the performance. “I walked up and replaced at that rodeo because Wyatt Denny and I were in a tight race for the No. 15 spot to qualify for the Finals,” said Hibler, 24. “He and I both walked up at the rodeo, and they drew those horses for us. I didn’t

know a whole lot about that horse but after the ride I was sure glad I had that one.” The win in Pasadena earned him $1,610 towards the PRCA | RAM World Standings. He said while the last few weeks have been stressful it was advice from his wife that lifted a little weight off his shoulders. “My wife talked to me, and she said, ‘just have fun and remember why you ride bareback horses,’” Zach said. “After I started doing that it just seemed like everything was a lot easier. Not worrying about all the standings and just getting on each horse and having fun. If it works out it works out and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t.” – Tanner Barth
