SHORT ROUND Cindy Rosser receives Donita Barnes Award Honored

A lifetime of commitment to the rodeo industry earned Cindy Rosser the 2020 PRCA Donita Barnes Contract Personnel Lifetime Achievement Award, Oct. 27. Rosser, 65, is the daughter of ProRodeo Hall of Fame stock contractor Cotton Rosser and has been involved in the rodeo business her entire life. “I knew Donita Barnes, and she was a grand lady, one in a million, and it is nice to put my name alongside hers,” Cindy said. “This is a great honor. It feels good that people recognize you and appreciate your hard work and all the effort you have put into the rodeo business. “I was very surprised when I heard the news. I have been gathering cattle, and I have to brand some colts. It’s just another day around here at the Flying U.” The Donita Barnes Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognize PRCA members who have dedicated their lives to the rodeo industry for their commitment, work and contributions. Cotton Rosser and his family operate the Flying U Rodeo and Rosser Rodeo stock contracting companies based in Marysville, Calif. They produce about 50 rodeos a year. In 1956, Cotton bought the Flying U Rodeo Ranch, now the oldest continuing rodeo livestock company in the United States. Cotton received the Donita Barnes Award in 2015. The Donita Barnes Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Cindy at the PRCA Awards Banquet on Dec. 2 in Fort Worth, Texas. “I love this business, it is bred in me,” Cindy said. “I want it to be the best it can be, and I want to raise great livestock and put on good rodeos. I learned from my dad that you have to entertain the people.”

Mayor Betsy Price to Keynote 2020 PRCA Convention

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price will be the keynote speaker at the 2020 PRCA Convention in Fort Worth, Texas. The mayor will address convention attendees at the Fort Worth Convention Center on Tuesday, Dec. 1. The gathering of PRCA members precedes the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo at nearby Globe Life Field, Dec. 3-12. “We are honored that Mayor Price will keynote our convention,” said George Taylor, CEO of the PRCA. “This is a woman who has successfully led through extraordinary change. She is helping to safely revive Fort Worth and was the leader in bringing the NFR to Texas this year. We couldn’t have a better keynote speaker on the docket.” The theme for this year’s convention is Challenge of Change, and Mayor Price will address attendees on the challenges that she has witnessed in her career and the positive change she is bringing to her community. “Change has been at the center of 2020 and I’m so impressed

with the way ProRodeo is navigating the challenges that we have all faced throughout this difficult year,” Price said. “I credit much of that to the cowboy spirit that permeates rodeo.” This year’s convention is presented by Visit Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Sports Commission. Convention attendees will discuss what enabled ProRodeo to overcome the unexpected challenges of the 2020 season and the changes facing professional sports in the years ahead. Randy Bracher, of the Pendleton (Ore.) Rodeo Committee, will moderate a fireside chat to review the experiences of rodeo committees this season from across the country. As in prior years, the convention will feature the State of the PRCA address from Taylor as well as the PRCA Member Tradeshow. The 2020 PRCA National Convention will span two venues in Fort Worth, the Omni Fort Worth Hotel and Fort Worth Convention Center. Registration will be limited and is open for PRCA members and their guests at www.prcaconvention.com.
