TREMONTON, UTAH

Biglow continues August domination Staying Hot BY ALEX RILEY, Special to ProRodeo Sports News I n July, Clayton Biglow made due with what he was being given. The Clements, Calif., bareback rider wasn’t pulling stellar draws at the rodeos he was signing up for, resulting in mixed outcomes and a few decisions to turnout in an effort to save energy. The moment the calendar flipped to August, Biglow’s draws significantly improved – and each time out he has made sure to take advantage. GOLDEN SPIKE RODEO

The Golden Spike Rodeo in Tremonton, Utah, was the latest event to get Biglow’s best, as he rode for 85 points on Legacy Pro Rodeo’s Fire Man to hold off Jayco Roper’s runner-up score of 84.5. The narrow margin, paired with a lengthy wait time, made things very interesting. “It was a close rodeo – and I was in the first performance and there were two more to go. And obviously it was a lot of really good matchups with really good horses. I was sweating through that weekend for sure,” Biglow said with a laugh. “I had only seen that horse a couple times in the (bareback) riggin but a bunch in the saddle bronc riding. It just looked like a super fun horse to get on and was pretty rider friendly and let me show off on her. I was stoked to have her.” If nothing else, the outcome has been on trend for Biglow. Since August began, Biglow has been on a torrid pace, participating in 10 rodeos as of August 26, walking away with money in nine of them. Tremonton was the latest of his six wins in the month thus far. “This month of August, man, I’ve just been drawing so good at pretty much every rodeo I’ve gone to. I’ve been drawing the one to have. That obviously is half the battle and I’m feeling good and riding good. So, everything is clicking,” Biglow said. That might be an understatement. All told, the seven-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier has won more than $28,000 in the month. His hot streak has vaulted him into the top five of the PRCA | RAM World Standings with around $130,000 earned. “I wasn’t necessarily on the (NFR) bubble, but I wasn’t too far from it,” Biglow said. “August has definitely helped me in the standings and put me in a comfortable place, so I don’t have to worry about not making the NFR. Now, I can just go and kind of have fun. I feel like that takes a lot of pressure off you too and you enjoy it a little bit more.” With his spot at NFR secure, the 2019 bareback world champion is now focusing his attention on putting himself in the best possible place for the season-culminating event. Money won now, coupled with a few strong rounds in Las Vegas, could lift a cowboy from middle of the pack to world championship contender in the blink of an eye. Until then, Biglow has no intentions of slowing down. He’ll hit all the rodeos he can during the home stretch of the season in hopes of keeping his blistering August pace going as long as possible. In the end, Biglow knows it all adds up. In fact, that’s the point. “It definitely puts a world title back in perspective. You can go to the NFR and just have two good rounds, start it off good and be right back easily in the race,” Biglow said. “From here on out, I’m just trying to win as much money as I can until the end of the year.”
