GOODING PRO RODEO GOODING, IDAHO Good for Waguespack

Steer wrestler Tyler Waguespack is no stranger to

winning.

The Gonzales, La., cowboy won PRCA world championships in 2016 and 2018 and has qualified for six consecutive National Finals Rodeos. Waguespack is well on his way to No. 7 and helped his cause by winning the Gooding (Idaho) Pro Rodeo for the first time with a 3.5-second run. Gooding was a stop on the ProRodeo Tour presented by PendletonWhisky. “It was great to get that win and get a big chunk of money,” Waguespack said. “I came in there with a little momentum, and I was able to keep it going through Gooding.” Waguespack earned $4,251 for the win. Waguespack is second in the ProRodeo Tour and was sixth in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $67,807. Waguespack rode his horse, Cheese, 8, in Gooding. He bought Cheese from his traveling partner Tyler Pearson about a year ago. “This year he (Cheese) is new to the (PRCA trail),” said Waguespack, 30. “I have used him at probably 85% of the rodeos this year. I’ve been riding him and Casper (Pearson’s horse). At the NFR, I will ride Casper, but I will have Cheese just in case. Hopefully in the next year or two he will be seasoned enough to go to a stage like that. He’s still a little bit new to the game.” With the PRCA regular season ending Sept. 30, Waguespack is keeping a simple approach. “I will just try and win as much as I can wherever I go,” he said. “I just need to make the best runs I can on whatever I draw.” Waguespack finished third in the 2020 world standings, $7,665 behindWorld Champion Jacob Edler. – Tracy Renck
