COWBOY GRILLE WITH TANNER BARTH

How’d you get your start in rodeo? Jack: When I was 3 years old, we went to a little local rodeo. I got lucky, and they put me on my first sheep. Ever since then, rodeoing and riding livestock is all I’ve ever wanted to do, to be honest with you. When did you know you could make a career out of the sport of rodeo? Jack: I probably started to recognize I had some real talent around the age of 15 or 16. I started going to open bull rides and started making a little bit of money. I figured if I could make money then I would give it a go when I turned 18. Why did you decide bull riding would be your event? Jack: When I was little I kind of did everything. After I started riding sheep, I got into some of the timed events and roped. As the years went on, I decided I had a lot more fun riding bulls and got a different feeling from it versus everything else. I wanted that feeling to stick around, I guess. What’s this season been like for you? Jack: It’s been great, but it’s been an eye-opener at the same time for me. I’ve never rodeoed as hard as I have this summer. It’s feeling a like no other when you’re on the road chasing a dream. It’s been unreal and I’ve been blessed enough to be doing good and being able to keep going up and down the road. Why did you decide to join the PRCA straight out of high school? Jack Gilmore purchased his PRCA permit in 2020 at the age of 18. Now in his first full season of rodeo, he’s starting to make his name known in the sport of bull riding. Earlier this season he won the Rodeo of the Ozarks in Springdale, Ark., June 26. This year the Ironton, Mo., cowboy has earned $18,465 on his permit. He plans to buy his PRCA card before the start of next season.

JACK GILMORE

Jack: I’ve always been one for anything, if you’re going to do it, go do it. I kicked around a couple of options, but it’s always been every bull rider’s dream to come out of those yellow bucking chutes in Las Vegas. So, I thought why wait, if I can make it now, I’m going to make it now. Is there someone you look up to in the sport of rodeo? Jack: When I was little J.B. Mauney was the best there was, and I’ve always looked up to him. Now, I’ve actually had the chance to compete at some of the same rodeos as him. It’s been pretty darn cool. What’s your go-to restaurant when you’re out on the road? Jack: It would probably have to be Buffalo Wild Wings. My go to is the honey barbecue boneless wings. Do you have a favorite candy? Jack: I don’t think I have a favorite. I’m not too picky when it comes to candy, I kind of like it all. What’s your favorite movie?

Jack: I’d have to say “8 Seconds,” that’s probably my all-time favorite. I still watch it all the time. When you’re not rodeoing, what do you enjoy doing for fun? Jack: I enjoy hunting and being outdoors when I

can. We also have a family-run feed yard, and so I’m usually helping my dad run it when I’m not rodeoing.

What’s your favorite holiday? Jack: Christmas, for sure. I really enjoy the meaning of it – the presents have never been very important to me. I’m a big believer and I like to give him credit for everything. What type of music do you like listening to? Jack: I’m not picky at all when it comes to music. I like it all, country, rock and just about everything that’s out there.
