Mid-Western Rodeo chairman in Manawa, Wis., and the committee representative on the PRCA’s Great Lakes Board of Directors, passed away July 24, he was 64. “Pete was a great guy,” said
Ziebell’s work at the Mid Western Rodeo didn’t go unnoticed as it was selected the PRCA’s Great Lakes Circuit Best Medium Rodeo of the Year in 2007-15 and 2017, 2019 and 2021-23. “I never heard anybody say anything mean about Pete,” Zinser said. “He was easy to get along with, and he was easy with the contestants. He would put out fires before they even had a flame. He was just a great individual. He team roped and was just a cowboy. Roger Mooney (a multiple-time NFR announcer) has been the announcer at the Mid Western Rodeo for years. “He wasn’t afraid to hire the best people in the PRCA to do his rodeo. He loved rodeo with all his heart and soul and his loss will be huge.” Jesse Knudsen, a Manawa, Wis., native, and former PRCA saddle bronc rider, bull rider, bullfighter and now an announcer, knew Ziebell for more than three decades “Pete was a great guy who always wanted to help everybody out who needed help,” Knudsen said. “He loved his family, and he loved that rodeo in Manawa. He put so much heart and soul into that rodeo.”
The percentage of ProRodeo saddle bronc riders legendary horse Descent of Beutler Brothers and Cervi bucked off in his career from 1964-1975. He bailed out of the chute 244 times and bucked off 170 cowboys, including 13 world champions. Descent is the only saddle bronc horse to get the PRCA Top Stock Award six times in 1966 69 and 1971-72. He was inducted into the inaugural ProRodeo Hall of Fame class in 1979 in Colorado Springs, Colo. $20K The amount of money ($20,170) earned by bareback rider Rocker Steiner during the Aug. 3-4 weekend, highlighted by him winning the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo in Castle Rock, Colo., and the Mountain Valley Stampede in

Then, anytime something needed to be changed or fixed with the rodeo, I guarantee you Pete fixed it. He was a doer. He worked on that rodeo all year long and I think the man worked on it 24 hours a day, seven days a week. “He was so dedicated. He was dedicated to the contestants. If they wanted something they got it. They had the best meals for them, and he tried to up his prize money every single year he could. He just never slacked off. They had sell out crowds. It was a huge rodeo.” J Bar J was a longtime stock contractor for the Mid-Western Rodeo. Ziebell is survived by his wife, Annette; daughter, Rachel, and her husband, Mike Holzschuh; and granddaughters, Leslie and Regan. Outside of rodeo, Ziebell and his family ran Manawa Heating, a heating and cooling In recognition of the support that PRCA-sanctioned rodeos contribute to local, regional, and national charities, Hesston by Massey Ferguson presents the Sowing Good Deeds contest. The contest is a chance to recognize and share the stories of rodeo teams across the country who are doing good in their communities. Five finalists are selected from the nominations and one rodeo committee will win a Massey Ferguson tractor. The winner is announced during the Wrangler NFR gala in December.
