CALDWELL NIGHT RODEO CALDWELL, IDAHO

Hass finding his way with a win in Caldwell In the Groove BY TANNER BARTH H eaded into the final month of the ProRodeo regular season, Clayton Hass was looking for that one key win that would put him back in the hunt to qualify for his fourthWrangler National Finals Rodeo. The Weatherford, Texas, steer wrestler got exactly what he was looking for at the Caldwell (Idaho) Night Rodeo Aug. 21. Hass secured his second rodeo win of the year with a 4.4-second run in the finals to claim the average title with 13.3 seconds on three head. It capped off his best week of the season. “Anytime you can put together a week like I did it dang sure gives you a much-needed boost, not only in the standings, but confidence wise,” said Hass, 37. “I was fortunate enough to get on the right end of the steer pen in Caldwell and put together some pretty good runs.” His winning runs in Caldwell brought a hefty payday. He earned $8,295, the most money he’s won at a single rodeo this season. He said while that win was nice there’s still a lot of work left to be done if he wants to return to the NFR for the first time since 2016. “There’s still a lot of rodeoing left to go, so I just have to do my job and let the chips fall where they may after that,” Hass said. “I’m going to push as hard as I can the rest of the season, we’re entered up at all the (ProRodeo) Tour rodeos and all the big ones left. Hopefully I can draw some good chances then capitalize on those chances to pull out more wins.” Hass sits 24th in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings and 20th in the ProRodeo Tour presented by PendletonWhisky. Qualifying for the Tour Finale Sept. 23-26 in Salinas, Calif., would provide him with an opportunity to make a major jump in the standings, with the rodeo paying out $1 million. “The horse (Benz) that I’m riding now is a lot more solid than he was a couple of years ago,” Hass said. “He gives me a chance to win every night especially when we have a good opportunity in front of us. I just need to draw some opportunities with those steers and dang sure capitalize. Everything else will sort itself out one way or another.”
