Cook pairs with The Black Tie in win Big Payday CHEYENNE FRONTIER DAYS

BY ALEX DODD T here was no question what horse every stock across the board, but Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics’ The Black Tie drew warranted attention. The 2022 PRCA Horse of the Year contributed to Ryder Sanford’s winning ride last year in Cheyenne. This year, Logan Cook benefitted from the luck of the draw and won the short round with another 90-point trip on The Black Tie. “For me and the other 12 guys in the field, that’s the one everybody wanted,” Cook said. “You know that if you do your job, you can win.” Cook knew what The Black Tie would bring to the arena. But in the hours leading up to the out, he had to fight off nerves. “It was kind of a nervous and testy afternoon about four o’clock,” Cook joked. “Just because you knew that you had the one to win it on.” Cook’s winning ride on The Black Tie secured $8,135. It marked his first win and his first trip to the short round at Cheyenne. “It’s great, and Cheyenne pays a lot of money,” he said. “But the main thing is that it’s one of the most prestigious rodeos. I’ll remember it forever… It’s pretty cool to walk away from here with a buckle. And I’ll keep it forever and have memories to look back on.” Cook opened Frontier Days with a 77.5-point ride to tie for fourth in the second performance and secure $294. He finished second in the second semifinal with an 85.5-point ride to pull in $2,299 and advance to the finals. “I’ve never made the short go here before,” he said. “I’ve won some money but never made the short go…I think this one is on everybody’s list.” Parker Fleet finished as the runner-up with 89 points on Brookman Rodeo’s Ragin Lunatic. Kolby Wanchuck and Gus Gaillard tied for third with 88.5 points each. Cook sat 17th in the PRCA | RAM World Standings as of Aug. 8 with $78,317. “The last couple of years I’ve gotten into a lot of the bigger rodeos and had a chance,” Cook said. “I’ve won a little bit of money at them but never had a big win besides Red Bluff (Calif.) and here. So, this feels great.” The big payday in Cheyenne puts him in the mix to make a push for his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo appearance. “Hopefully, I can keep the ball rolling and pick up a few more big checks,” he said. saddle bronc rider wanted on championship Sunday at Cheyenne Frontier Days.
